Yeah... I have to say the same thing... they say a picture can tell a thousand words...
not knocking the other bands... but I have seen ALL (I mean all) of the videos from the bands that are up on YouTube... I even found some page where I had to register to see photos etc...
Everybody else looks old, rough around the edges, fat, smoker and drinker faces (I mean from years of just being stupid), arrogant, and it just wreaked of ego, smoke, and everybody trying to be somebody they no longer were... (save a few)...
But stryper man... they look clean, healthy, happy, their sound was great, their show seemed great (the little bit we just saw now that there are vids up on youtube)...
props to stryper all the way.... great way to really testify to the preserving power of a walk with God.

Holy Crap! Sideways drums and coming out to the Battle Hymn. They better keep those two for at least the classic set on the 25th Ann. Tour haha.
(....and from the clips I've seen, Robert looked to be in top form. He looked and sounded great.)

Stryper were so awesome at Rocklahoma this year! I talked to several people who were seeing them for the first time (including my husband) and they were all were very impressed. I agree about Stryper looking younger and healthier than the other bands lol! Thanks guys for coming to my home state. Now I need to e-mail Cain's and tell them to bring Stryper back. I've been to several shows there, and Stryper had a really good turnout.

Just got through reading the other posts about Rocklahoma, and I have to disagree about Stryper having a smaller audience at ROK. There were less people at Rocklahoma this year than in the past, but I saw Kix, Jackyl, and Stryper and to me it seemed like they all had about the same size crowd. I was actually relieved about Jackyl's show, because Jesse James Dupree does NOT hold back on anything he says, and I thought he would probably say things about Jackyl opening for Stryper. But I guess he saved all the insults for Eddie Trunk lol. The shows on Sunday seemed to have about the same attendance in the evening. Anyway you look at it, Stryper did a great job. I'm not good at guessing numbers of people in the audience, but Stryper still had a good crowd. On a side note, I believe the less attendance at Rocklahoma had a lot to do with the bad economy and higher ticket prices. The only thing about ROK my husband and I really have a problem with is the security guards who are rude to EVERYBODY, but I won't say anything else b/c I don't want to start any drama. Another reason I think there were less people this year is because there are more festivals this year, like Rock Gone Wild. BTW Jody, it was cool meeting you this year. Brian and I had a great time hanging out with you at the side stage Saturday.

** 30 pictures posted at http://www.myspace.com/strypertour ** Wow, where to start...
Of the over 2,200 miles and nearly 40 hours that we drove to see Stryper at Rocklahoma it was worth every mile and every hour driven.
First, it was great to meet up with Yaz and Scott again for this show. It's nice to talk over the phone a lot but it was really good to hang with them again. It must have been 6 years since I'd been able to catch up with them and they are two of the coolest people to hang out with. We were able to meet Christie who has posted on the Forum before for the first time and was glad that we were able to spend time throughout the weekend with her. At first, I was assuming all was good until we got to the gas station in Tulsa where we stopped on the way to Rocklahoma to see the show. The good news is we survived, the bad news is that Yaz attempted to gas up the car while it was running... with us in it. Guess that's the way they handle business in Jersey, eh Yaz?
Once at the venue in Pryor, it really hit home that we were about to see history in the making for this band. Headlining a show of this magnitude was something that I was really looking forward to seeing. The weather eventually cooperated with a light wind and clouds rolling in to cool everyone down. I had been keeping in eye on the Forum while I was away and knew to look for a dude in a Stryper shirt. That didn't help much as there were many people roaming around the grounds with Stryper gear on. I did find the one wearing a Ratt cap on his head. It was great to finally meet Shannon and his friend at the show. I'd been interacting with him for years online and was cool to finally put a face to a name. Cool guys and was good hanging with them for awhile at the show. Saw them leaving before Jackyl came on but was good to read that they came back for the big show there at the end. Great to meet Jody as well. Looks like someone had a pretty good view of the show!
As far as the bands that played that day, I didn't see too much of Lizzy Borden but what I did see matched what I had heard about their live show. Very theatrical, in a Marilyn Manson type of way... Singer needs to drop a few pounds. Dude looked like he was trying to eat the poor woman, not bite her neck. I cared very little in seeing Keel but I have to say they sounded pretty good and the crowd seemed to like what they were hearing. Kix was a crowd favorite and a good live band as many people always say and as it turned out probably should have had the later slot Jackyl was given as a replacement for Thin Lizzy. As for Jackyl, they really have a unique sound and sound really good live, when they are playing. Unfortunately, about half of their set was Jesse James walking around with his a*s hanging out taunting Stryper throughout the set. The man got more intoxicated through the show which was great for those in the crowd that were toasted already as well but seemed sort of lame and a waste of time to many others. It only got worse throughout the show and ended backstage with Stryper. Yes, Jesse, we ARE in a hurry tonight! There's a band waiting that actually plays music and will run rings around you guys. The crowd was very into the Jackyl set for what it's worth. If nothing else, I can say the guy is entertaining though I could go without ever having to see his junk magnified on a big screen again.
Now to what we had all been waiting for, Stryper. First off, props to them coming on stage to "Battle Hymn" as I had been hoping they would. Very cool to see and it really is a dramatic way to enter the stage and start the show. Should be even better when they are playing smaller venues full of Stryper fans singing along to every word.
The first impression is that these guys look a million times better than all of the rest of the bands out there throughout the festival. It's not even close. Noticable that Robert had cut his hair to about shoulder length. The man was unbelievable on the kit that night. He came to play and sounded good on the new material and absolutely slayed on the drums all night long. It looked as though he might have been playing on the Taye kit from the Reborn tour but from my vantage point couldn't tell for sure. All I know is that I'm sure the drums themselves were probably wishing they were still in storage the way Robert was crushing then throughout the set. Very impressed.
Tracy was closest to me and I'm totally diggin the fu manchu to be honest. Whereas Robert was scaling back the locks it was obvious Tracy was going in the other direction. The man looked confident up on stage and nailed the bass solo in Loud N' Clear. Great to see the guy having fun up on stage again!
Oz seemed as though he was having the most fun on stage of the four. He was very animated as usual but seemed to have an extra kick to him this time around. Probably because he had Annie about 5 feet away from him rolling footage and who looked to be totally into every word and every note of each song. Was really cool to see. He looked like a happy man up there and let's face it, has every reason to be. Glad he still chose to use the "bullet" guitar from back in the day. Sounds really good and I've always liked the way that thing looks live. The guy was a joy to watch all night long.
Michael sounded excellent and I was digging the new guitar he was playing. I did notice there was less interaction with the crowd then normal from him but is probably understandable when considering which crowd it was and the way Jackyl came off right before they went on stage. It seemed from where I was, that there was a little less of Mike standing close to Oz during the dual guitar solos. It reminded me of the way Eddie Van Halen would turn his back to the crowd so that they couldn't really see how he was doing what he was doing. Mike controlled the stage from one side to the other as he always does. It was really good to see the guy up there doing his thing again after all that he's been through.
My biggest impression of the night was the sound and just how big the night really was. Stryper sounded great but I can't tell you how cool it was/is to hear them play on that type of sound system and on that large a stage. Powerful would be how I would describe them if I had only one word to choose. They played mainly heavy stuff along with the hits that people were familiar with. Musically, the highlight of the night had to be them playing the new material plus the heavy sound of "The Rock That Makes Me Roll". That song killed and sounded so heavy it was unreal. Even got the drunk bikers around me moving there heads. It was awesome when they played "Murder By Pride". It really is one of my favorite songs they've ever recorded and sounded so good live. "4 Leaf Clover" sounded really good as did "Peace Of Mind". The thing about it was that almost everyone knew that classic song so it went over really well with the crowd.
This really is the best Stryper show I've ever seen if for nothing more than just the sheer magnitude of the evening. The power coming from the stage was awesome and it was cool to see them headlining over so many other good bands. It surely was the loudest Stryper show I've ever witnessed and to this day my ears are still ringing. That can't be a good thing, but to me it is. Yes, I did catch yet another Bible. For some reason I have a knack for that.
I have to say, it even impressed said drunken bikers next to me. After the show they mentioned how great the music was and how bad the lyrics sucked. Based on that, I would say that Stryper did their job.
SET LIST
Sing Along Song Murder By Pride The Rock That Makes Me Roll Reach Out Open Your Eyes Calling On You Free More Than A Man Peace Of Mind 4 Leaf Clover Honestly Loud N' Clear Soldiers Under Command The Way To Hell With The Devil Makes Me Wanna Sing

Cool review, Shagg. Over 2,000 miles driven! That's huge. Even had your woman by your side the whole way which is even, well, huger! I'm hoping my wife will still make it to the 9/11 concert in Boston and that's only an hour away. Well, in her defense we did just find out she's pregnant again. But, there's no way I could ever convince her to drive as far as you guys did. Your wife rocks! Anyway, I wanted to quickly try to attempt to address the concerns about Michael's voice and offer my take on it.. so here goes.. Michael hasn't been on the road or sang live since the Boston tour last year (with the exception of the acoustic show he Oz performed in Nashville). I heard him mention once that it can take a show or two to get into his vocal groove when he tours and once he's in it, he's good for the remainder of the shows. I'm sure there's probably nothing to worry about considering the amount of time gone by since his last live all out gig. Not to mention all of the running around and 'rocking out' he does. I would imagine the ole cardiovascular system needs a little time to re-adjust. As for Oz, he has been playing clubs and singing on stage alot lately.. M Playground, Tourniquet, Bloodgood etc.. so his voice etc.. is in 'game shape'. Who better to get your back then Oz Fox who sounds so much like and compliments Michael so well. I've always felt that Michael gets better and better when he tours. His tour with Boston is the most recent example of this. When I saw Boston play Mohegan Sun last August Michael's voice was immense and that show was 2 months into the tour. Anyway, not saying I know anything here, but that's the way I see it... Peace Out

I think Mike's voice sounded good all night. Yes he did not attempt to hit the high notes on two of the songs, but if I recall there was one song that he did sing the high scream. Shagg, was there any interaction between Jokeyl and Stryper back stage or anything? Just wondering?
